Palo Verde Beetles: More Bark Than Bite!
If you've ever been startled by a giant bug that looks like it came straight out of a monster film, you've likely met the Palo Verde beetle! Common in Arizona, these massive, 3-4 inch beetles with long antennae and strong jaws can seem intimidating.
But don't panic! Despite their scary looks, they're not dangerous to humans. They don't carry venom or diseases and are more interested in reproduction than confrontation. While they may bite if handled, it's not a serious health risk.
Named after the Palo Verde tree, they are a common sight in the summer evenings in Phoenix. Just remember to give them space, and they'll leave you alone.
