The United States is home to a sizable population of field crickets. This cricket is dark brown to grey to black and slightly longer than a house cricket. Field crickets prefer to live outside and eat plants, but they will move indoors if their food supply runs out or if the weather becomes adverse. Field cricket difficulties can be reduced by turning off lights during times when there are a lot of crickets, or at the very least, adjusting lighting so the crickets are less bothersome. Field crickets are frequently drawn to lighted places at night.
