Primary fusion of the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint is a procedure with one of the highest patient satisfaction in the long term.
This is a very active patient with pathological fracture of the osteophyte of the base of the proximal phalanx due to long-standing Hallux Rigidus and a large osteophyte over the dorsal surface of the 1st metatarsal head.
The shape of the head of the metatarsal was remodeled and troughed in order to be able to fit the plate. The fractured osteophyte was harvested, prepared and used as an autogenous bone graft.
