River City Hardscapes

We hired River City Hardscape, LLC for phase one of a backyard makeover that included a large oval paver patio, pathways, a small retaining/sitting wall, and a fireplace— we couldn’t be happier with the results. The craftsmanship is excellent, and the entire team was professional, respectful, and efficient throughout the three-week project. James was fantastic to work with—communicative, flexible, and ready to problem-solve as our project progressed. The timeline was accurate, even with a few change orders. We truly appreciate the care and quality put into this project and look forward to working with them again!

James and his brother did an outstanding job of bringing my basic vision of what I wanted done in my small backyard into a cohesive reality. I had intended on selecting a pattern that would be compatible with my existing paver patio. James suggested a pattern that was still offered through Western interlock that would work. When the age of my paver patio would likely lead to a substandard result for the overall project, James asked if I would consider updating the patio at the same time I did the rest of the project. Once I made the decision to proceed with the new patio, he suggested I may want to consider some newer designs offered by Western Interlock. He suggested one particular pattern and I liked it! My project was completed in two weeks and one day. I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome and can’t wait for spring when the landscaper can plant the flower box. Plus I have the added benefit of pathways and a patio with no trip hazards (there were many old roots pushing up the old pavers).

We recently decided to replace old steps made from railroad ties with stone steps and pavers. After some very careful research, we selected River City Hardscapes in Salem. We met with James and his lovely wife and knew right away that he was the right guy. He viewed our location and immediately had a vision as what we could do. Our own vision was not specific, and it took someone like James to open our eyes to the incredible possibilities in front of us. In two weeks, he was able to transform our pathways and stairs into a beautiful hardscape using purchased stone steps and pavers and utilizing river rock from our own property. As someone who has worked with building and landscape contractors for over 50 years, I have the utmost confidence in endorsing River City Hardscapes.

James and crew members constructed 2 patios, walkways, a ramp into rear yard,, and replaced the front door entrance with paving stones. We are very pleased with their workmanship and work detail. Excellent job. The work also included relocating a 7 piece marble water fountain with sump pump, relocating a heavy stone bench, and reusing stepping stones from the excavation to extend a pathway.

Working with James and River City Hardscapes was incredible. We had a challenging project including a retaining wall, two level patio, and a sloping walkway. James is creative and has an excellent vision for what the project could be. It is gorgeous. We found his cost to be very reasonable. He was timely and professional. He was quick to respond to my questions and was always checking on how we were feeling as the project progressed. The worksite was clean and organized each day. James is super easy to work with and very knowledgeable. We would definitely hire him again. No question.

James and Reed did a fantastic job on installing my new retaining wall. They were very precise in their layout and also have a good eye for design. If you need any hardscaping done, this is the company for you. Thanks again!

James and Reid did an excellent job. River City Hardscapes were easy to interact and communicate with. The project was completed in a timely manner. James does an excellent job with both the below ground engineering and the above ground aesthetics.

I can’t go without adding my own five stars to all of River City Hardscapes top-notch reviews; I’ve had a lot of home improvements done over the past 30 years, but none has made as positive an impact on the appearance and function of my home or on my opinion of customer service and craftsmanship. James designed and engineered a parking pad, retaining wall and patio on a challenging, sloped lot and along with Reid and Israel, managed to tie them in beautifully with this quirky, 1970’s house and landscape. James even managed to artfully incorporate stones and plantings already existing on site into his overall design, making the new pavers look elegant, yet as though they’ve always been here. I could not have hoped for a better experience or outcome and I am very, very pleased.

We hired James to replace some railroad ties that led down to our lower yard which had been there for 30+ years. My vision was to just replace the railroad ties with steps only, how ever James‘s vision was far beyond that. To say that I am in awe with the way that project turned out would be an understatement. James not only had a vision but made the pathways down to our lower yard incredibly beautiful, with keeping in mind the rustic setting that we wanted. I would highly recommend River City Hardscapes to do any project that you need done in a hardscape/landscape setting. He is not only methodical with his work, he is incredibly easy to work with and very, very nice. Thank you for a spectacular job.
