How to Check Your Antifreeze — and Why It Matters 🚗

Your engine generates a lot of heat—and antifreeze (also called coolant) is what keeps it from overheating or freezing up in extreme temps. It’s a small thing that plays a big role in keeping your vehicle running smoothly.
Here’s how to check your antifreeze:
Wait until your engine is cool – Never open the radiator cap on a hot engine.
Locate the coolant reservoir – It’s usually a translucent plastic tank near the radiator.
Check the fluid level – There are “min” and “max” lines on the side. If it’s low, you may need a top-off.
Check the color – Coolant should be bright (usually green, orange, or pink). If it’s rusty, brown, or sludgy, it’s time for a flush.
Why it’s important:
Old or low coolant can lead to overheating, frozen components, engine damage, and expensive repairs. It also protects against corrosion inside your engine.
