What is an Online or Virtual Commissioning?
Do you need to commission a document but are unable to meet with a Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths?
Online or Virtual Commissioning is a simple process whereby an individual’s identity is verified by video conferencing for the purpose of taking an oath and electronically signing the documents using E-Signature software.
Online or virtual commissioning is acceptable for many commissioned documents. However, it is best to check with the authority to whom the document is being presented to verify they will accept them.
Documents that require notarization cannot be done virtually as the notary must emboss the document with the notarial seal, a process that requires a hard copy.
