Vulnerable Sector Check Fingerprints
A vulnerable sector check is a type of criminal background check required for many positions working with vulnerable persons such as children, people with disabilities, or the elderly. It is a combination of a regular police record check of the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) national databases of criminal offences, combined with a check of local police records in the place where an applicant lives, and a check to see if an applicant has ever received a record suspension or pardon for sexual offences in Canada.
It MUST be initiated by your local police. They may require you to be fingerprinted during this process, in which case they will provide you a written request for fingerprints. The fingerprints might be taken at their station, or at a specially accredited agency such as Red Seal Notary. Just bring the letter and two pieces of valid Government issued ID (at least 1 with photo). If you are volunteering, also bring a letter from the volunteer organization. We'll take your fingerprints electronically, and ensure that the results are sent by the RCMP directly to the police conducting the vulnerable sector check.
