😰 Are you a nervous first time home buyer? Not sure where to start and what to avoid? Here are my top 3 DON'TS for you!
1. Don't buy too much house 🏠
Buy a house that is perfect for right now; If you have kids or need extra space in the future, sell and upsize then. This will help build up your equity which you can use and put towards a larger home down the road. This will also save you from managing a bigger mortgage than you have to.
2. Don't forget about unexpected expenses💰
A home is not just the mortgage, taxes and insurance. You have to think about emergencies and home improvements. What if the water heater breaks in the middle of winter? Don't forget about maintenance and utilities; internet, electricity, gas and any minor repairs that may arise.
3. Don't overlook location📍
Put time and effort into choosing your location wisely. Location is the one thing you can't change about a house, and you want to make sure you're happy with the neighborhood you settle in. If you love suburban neighborhoods, don't waste your time looking at homes in the city, because you know you aren't going to be happy there.
