Defeating Melanoma: Breakthroughs in Skin Cancer Treatment
The former prognosis and outcomes for patients diagnosed with melanoma have improved due to new advances and breakthroughs in the field. With patients suffering from advanced stage melanoma, estimations show that the survival rate is further enhanced by the introduction of novel treatments such as lifileucel which was upheld by the FDA in 2024. In clinical settings, combination treatments have been shown to work where the treatment mRNA-4157, together with pembrolizumab, has shown to mitigate risks of recurrence by 49%. Significant alterations in clinical guidelines as well as the novel immunotherapy options have opened doors on the treatment of skin cancer promising better long term survival rates.
