Genetics vs. Sun: Key Factors in Skin Cancer Risk
Skin cancer arises when skin cells are out of control. People develop skin cancer for two main reasons: genes and the sun. Specific genes that some people possess make them more susceptible to skin cancer, especially if they have family members who have previously suffered from it. Harmful Ultraviolet rays, as does the sun, tend to sunburn the skin and cause cancer. Thus, both our genetic traits and the amount of exposure to the sun that we receive are crucial for the prevention of skin cancer.
