HPV Role in Oral Cancer Development
HPV is involved in the pathogenesis of OSCC with an increasing incidence of HPV-associated OSCC each year. Oral cancers that are high-risk are caused by high risk HPV types with HPV-16 being responsible for oral cancers that are about 60-80%. Integrates into skin cells and causes changes in the last two oncogenes E6 and E7, which mess up the cycle of cell changes and breed out of control cells. This association has been escalating over the recent past thus the call for immunisation among others as a form of prevention.
