Can Pollution Trigger Breast Cancer Cells?
Breast cancer pathogenesis may arise due to environmental pollutants wherein polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) play a leading role in disease development. Environmental substances cause oxidative stress and affect hormonal routes that result in cellular mutations followed by tumor development. Current epidemiological evidence shows air pollution exposure leads to higher breast cancer case rates therefore scientists need to study environmental toxins' mechanisms in breast cancer cell proliferation.
