Too often times in the immediate aftermath of a hurricane unqualified, unlicensed and unregistered contractors move in to make a buck using high pressure tactics to get people to agree to repairs, that are over-priced, or unnecessary altogether leaving the homeowner with even more loss.
When hiring a contractor to complete any work, whether it requires a permit or not, check Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation to be sure the person you've hired is legitimate and in good standing. Some trades require professional licenses as well as a business license to do business, such as plumbers and electricians, other trades, like painters, are only required to have a business license, but they are all required to have liability insurance.
Do research before hiring anyone to do work at your home or business.
