EXPERT FENCE LINES ACROSS LAND
When it comes to managing grade along fence lines, some contactors just like to “step” the fence across it. While this is an easy solution, there is a much more aesthetic option. An expert and professional fence contractor will know these better techniques.
Rather than fence “stepping” which creates a noticeable, “dental” top line and gaps along the bottom fence line – see image above to left - there is a way to close off the fence to the bottom grade.
The best-looking and most professional approach involves a combination of stepping and bottom-line trimming, and/or just bottom-line trimming to contour to the bottom grade.
The wood fence pictured above to the right shows how we used a combination of steps and bottom trimming to manage a steep grade along a fence line. Using taller panels and trimming them down along the bottom line allowed us to keep the bottom rail snug to the ground and hug the grade. Steps were still needed along the top line but the result of bottom trimming is a delight to all our clients.
The same can be accomplished in vinyl to keep a top line of fence dead level. Pictured above to the lower left and right, positive grade along the fence line from right to left could have resulted in a “step”. Using techniques we have mastered; we are able to angle-trim panels to keep the top line level yet hug the ground at a standard 2” in both wood and vinyl.
