Building a horizontal, spaced privacy fence in wood then solid staining it matte black delivers a rich design at an affordable price.
For a client in Milford, CT, we “stick-built” more than 200 linear feet of 2” spaced, privacy fence in all pressure treated lumber. The horizontal slats used are 5/4” x 6” boards which provide the rigidity needed to keep the boards straight for many years and avoid bowing. Posts are 5 x 5” which is the highest standard for wood fences. And yes, all posts were set in 80-100# of wet mix concrete.
To account for changes in grade found at this client’s home, we kept the top line of the fence level and straight by scaling the bottom height of the fence to follow the grade. At its highest point, the fence was at a privacy height of 6-feet. Towards the house, the fence scaled down in height to 4 feet, 6” inches. Gates were also built on site to match the exact design and create a seamless profile for a single and double gate.
Instead of painting the fence, the best option is to solid stain them which gives it a painted look and provides much better protection for the wood, and against weather. Stains can also be custom colored to match any color a client wants, or to match the fence color with one found on the home or deck.
This is what our client, Janice, has to say about Pro Fence Design’s work at her Milford, CT home.
