White cedar, “diamond” rail can look great along a property especially when your fence contractor adheres to some time-tested design and engineering principles.
At Pro Fence Design, we make sure the confluence of angles in diamond rail and their 5” posts are honored by making sure sections are length-sized equally - it makes a noticeable difference in appearance.
This means that a section where a full length of diamond rail – normally 8’ – does not “fit” in a section, each of the rails are cut down, and dowel-rounded so that each section is equal along the line.
Such was the case in this project where a 21’ foot length of fence required we resize each of the rails at 7’ - originally 8' - to avoid having a short length at the end. Short lengths as so “un pro” and unfortunately something we see done by other contractors.
For this Greenwich, Connecticut install, the same was needed on the other side of the house which our team used a diamond rail cutter “bell” to cut, then round out the ends of each rail to ensure that the lengths are equal between sections. Our client was delighted with the result.
