Why a Tripped Rollout Switch Matters
If your furnace isn’t heating and you notice only the blower or inducer running, you may be dealing with a tripped flame rollout switch. This safety switch shuts your furnace down when flames or excessive heat push backward out of the burner area.
A rollout switch usually trips for serious reasons, such as:
• A plugged or cracked heat exchanger
• Exhaust blockage (bird nests, collapsed chimney cap, debris)
• Flames rolling back instead of being pulled through the heat exchanger
If you find a rollout switch popped out, don’t continuously reset it. This can be dangerous and may indicate carbon monoxide risk.
