Went for Christmas dinner last night and had a wonderful time. We have eaten here many times over the years and have never been disappointed with the food or the level of service. We would highly recommend The Poets House Ely to anyone who loves good food in a great location with wonderful staff.

Sunday Roast at Poets House – A Pleasant Surprise Visited Poets House today for a Sunday roast after a recommendation, and I’m very glad I did. From the moment we walked in, the interior was a pleasant surprise—elegant yet relaxed, with enough space to feel comfortable. We weren’t squashed in, and could actually hold a conversation without having to ask each other to repeat ourselves—a rare treat these days. The staff were exceptionally polite and attentive throughout, striking that perfect balance of professionalism and friendliness. A particular highlight: the food was served on hot plates. It might seem a small detail, but it makes a big difference—nothing worse than a great meal going lukewarm on a cold dish. As for the roast itself? Extremely nice. Generous portions, beautifully cooked, and thoroughly enjoyable. I’d wholeheartedly recommend Poets House to anyone looking for a proper Sunday roast in a refined yet welcoming setting. I’ll definitely be returning.

A lovely weekend away for our wedding. The hotel is beautiful and the staff in the bar and restaurant were fantastic and very attentive. They provided an excellent service. The room was lovely but we had a few slight niggles. Our room was very overlooked and we didn’t have the best view. We also had a bathroom door that had a broken handle. I did get stuck in there. We notified the reception but unfortunately it was not fixed so we had to be careful. When we went for breakfast, items were not restocked and the pastries were empty. We enjoyed the breakfast from the table menu cooked to order.

Amazing will definitely be back!! Me and my wife came for lunch today and we did not have a reservation however that was not a problem and we were promptly sat and taken care of by our young waiter called taige! He was brilliant and went above and beyond to make our experience truly special from explaining our wines to putting up the tables umbrella and getting my wife extra cushions, he is a amazing asset to the team there and I hope he sees this review! The food was also amazing I opted for the duck pate to start followed by the rump steak which were all delicious! It was extremely busy today in the garden I saw other people with cocktails which also looked superb! All over an amazing location experience and food and will definitely be back!!

We had our wedding at the Poets house just last week and it was simply amazing. Sara and the staff went above and beyond for us and made our day extra special for us. The food was incredible, everybody loved the lamb. The mushroom starter was also excellent.

Amazing location near to the beautiful cathedral and Cromwells house. Breakfast was fantastic. The receptionist and all the staff were 5 star. Only issue is small car park round the back but you can offload in the courtyard. Lots of on street parking. My very large room was next to the road so people were walking right next to the window on the pavement so I had to close the curtains. Other rooms probably ok. Lots of good toiletries and crisps and biscuits in the room.

A short break with my wife. We were extremely impressed by the overall experience. Our room was really comfortable and had everything you could need. Loved the stand alone bath and the bed was excellent. The room and hotel were beautifully decorated and appointed. We don't often eat in hotels , preferring to try local restaurants wherever we happen to be. We were glad we had dinner at Poets House. The food was excellent. We enjoyed our first night so much that we went back with our Daughter on our second nights stay. The staff were courteous and very welcoming. Mercedes was really helpful, kind and thoughtful. My wife was struggling with a leg injury and she helped with bags, chatted and ensured we were fully aware of all relevant amenities and options. It was refreshing to be met with such genuine warmth and attention to guest needs. The General Manager, Christine was empathic, thoughtful and spared the time to chat with us on several occasions. We stay in lots of hotels, this one exceeded expectations. It was quiet, set in a beautiful location facing the Cathedral and we will return.

We absolutely adored, staying at the Poet’s House in Ely. Our family had traveled in for a wedding at The Old Hall and found the town of Ely to be completely charming. I can’t imagine any lodging option to be better! Our rooms were beautiful, the beds were comfortable, the air-conditioning worked perfect perfectly, and the soaking tub was the perfect end to a wonderful wedding celebration. All the appointments and details are too many to mention here, but if you are ever in the Cambridgeshire area, you would be lucky to stay here! I have to give a special shout out to the general manager, Christine, for going above and beyond to help us. The front desk had arranged for two taxis to take our party to the wedding but for some reason, the second taxi left half of the group. Another taxi was not available for at least an hour so Christine drove us to the wedding in her personal vehicle so that we would not be late for the festivities! She was the perfect guide along the drive and so very kind! The restaurant breakfast was delicious and the service in both the restaurant and the bar just perfect. These are wonderful people and I simply cannot say enough nice things!!

So it was 2 years ago that we stayed there and I meant to leave a glowing review then. However, I'm very bad at that so I'm chiming in now! We had the most amazing stay here. The view from our room encompassed the cathedral, the church and Cromwells house. The copper bathtub was a delightful extra. Staff were lovely. I remember Jordan especially. Not sure she'll still be there but if you're reading this, thank you for being awesome 2 years ago!! This hotel is a wonderful treat for yourselves. Very happy!
