LESSONS I learn from my Bikram Yoga practice...
manage my MIND
"The meaning of yoga is connection of mind, body and spirit. If you have a bad telecommunication system, your body gets sick. Yoga helps fix that."
Bikram Choudhury 🙏
ME: About to do a posture in a Bikram class and I think, maybe I’ll miss this one out. I’m tired, & the teacher is bugging me? Then, for whatever reason, I go – oh what the hell I’ll just do it – WOW the posture feels like one of your strongest ever?!!
Why?
Because...no expectations.
Expectations use past experience to create judgement of how something will be, so creating potential limitations and reinforcing the self-beliefs, not just in your yoga practice, but in your life.
Me & SELF TALK: But I’m not very flexible….
but I choose to do it anyway
Think less. Your mind is a bad neighbourhood...You should stay out of it.
How to Control the Monkey Mind
Yoga is a tool to change your “normal” state that responds habitually to situations, based on what you think you know about yourself, your values, your limits. Your monkey mind is so busy reinforcing all these that your spirit is lost. (my instructor will say: 'My MIND...your BODY, don't matter the mind. In practice the mind doesn't matter.
So we get to switch off the THINKING mind & switch on the FEELING MIND
And the ultimate goal of yoga is to find your true spirit, to find the DIVINE Within you. 🙏
I now find this rippling into all my exercise 'it simply feelsgood' to be present.
