Replacement Double Glazing Peterborough / Stamford
We were asked to replace a full house of double glazed windows, front door with side screen and uPVC back door. The current windows were wooden frames which were quite dated approximately 1970s. There was only a 4mm gap between the glass which does not exceed todays building regulations. As we observed the old double glazing we decided to illustrate the issues that were evident with this old type of glazing, then explain the reasons why the homeowner should purchase A-rated double glazing from Peterborough Doors & Windows!
Problems with Slim Double Glazing
Slim double glazing often comes with many underlining problems. Slim double glazing are demarcated as a glass units with an overall thickness of 14mm or less. This extra slim dimensions only allows two 4mm piece of glass with a 4mm cavity. The cavity is the area know which separates each piece of glass. The ultra-thin glazing is often found in a heritage or listed building which were installed when double glazing first become popular. These windows were originally used to minimise the reflection of the double glazed glass, whilst trying to maintain the practical aspect of double glazing. Unfortunately slim double glazing was not a practical solution, it also came with many problems.
