Red Squirrels are Native species and protected under Wildlife & Countryside Act 1981.
Grey Squirrels are not native to United Kingdom, they were imported in from North America, as garden ornament for rich country homes and estates, they were classified as a pest specie in 1930 as damage by grey squirrel was recognised.
