I often have clients who are anxious about reaching out to connections on LinkedIn, asking current contacts for help, or trying to forge new relationships. I always advise them that the worst case scenario is that the person doesn’t respond, the collateral damage being a momentarily bruised ego. Ultimately, you won’t know if you don’t try. I love this quote by Wayne Gretzky because it applies to all aspects of the job search process: taking the first step in considering other options, reaching out to old and new contacts, sending in applications, following up on that outreach. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. So why not go for it?
