I stayed at the PC Hotel Skardu for one night in a standard room on the first floor, which offered both garden and mountain views. The price of PKR 32,000 for a room of that standard seemed excessively high. The bathroom layout was particularly inconvenient; there was no separate shower area, and the rain shower was positioned right at the entrance of the washroom. This made showering uncomfortable, and water spilled everywhere, reaching the sink and commode. The vanity was too small to hold the provided amenities, so they were awkwardly placed above the toilet.
The room itself was sparsely furnished, lacking a study chair and a cupboard. I requested an iron and an iron stand, but was only given the iron and informed that no iron stand was available. However, a positive point was the complimentary ironing of two suits, which I appreciated.
Breakfast options were limited, and the taste of the food was generally disappointing. The exceptions were the delicious egg pudding and halwa, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The crockery was also underwhelming; the white quarter plates were made of plastic.
During my stay, a significant portion of the hotel was occupied by a Tableeghi Jamaat, which made walking around the premises feel awkward. While the staff was polite and courteous, they appeared to be untrained. At the breakfast buffet, a foreign guest repeatedly requested black tea, but no one was available to assist her. Another foreign guest complained about having only hot water in all the taps, including the bidet shower. He was so frustrated that he came to the room, soaked, to contact the reception for help.
Although the hotel's location is convenient due to its proximity to the airport, for the same price, Shangrilla offers a much superior experience with its beautiful lake, mountain views, walking tracks, restaurants, and boating facilities.
