Fire ants
Fire Ant workers vary in size between one sixteenth to one fourth of an inch. They get their name from having a stinger at the tip of their abdomen, which causes a stinging fiery pain when they inflict it on a victim. Fire ants mostly nest in the ground but can also nest in structures especially near the soil. When nesting in the soil they build large and unsightly mounds, they are attracted to electrical junction boxes such as air conditioners. Fire ants can cause considerable damage to lawns, birds, and people. They can be treated by applying a fire ant treatment on the lawn and around the foundation of the house.
