Can You Plaster Over Artex, or Does It Need Reboarding?
One of the most common questions we get asked is whether Artex ceilings or walls need to be reboarded or if you can simply plaster over them. The answer is—you can do either, and we offer both options at On Touch Plastering and Rendering.
If the Artex is in good condition (not flaking or damp), we can plaster straight over it. We apply a bonding coat to level the surface, then a multi-finish plaster to give you a smooth, modern look—no mess, no major disruption.
Got coving?
Plastering over Artex is ideal if you want to keep your coving. You won’t lose any of its decorative detail. But if you go down the reboarding route, you might lose some of the edging depth unless the coving is removed and refitted.
When do you need to reboard?
If the Artex is loose, damaged, or the ceiling is sagging, we recommend overboarding with new plasterboard for a long-lasting finish. We’ll always advise you on the best option during our site visit.
We’re experts at dealing with Artex and know how to get flawless results. Whether it’s a simple skim or a full reboard, we’ll leave your ceilings looking brand new.
