What to Expect During a Plastering Job:
A Step-by-Step Guide for Homeowners
If you’re having plastering work done in your home, knowing what to expect can help the process go smoothly and reduce stress.
1. Preparation:
Before the plasterer arrives, clear furniture and cover flooring. A good plasterer will also protect surfaces, but a clear room helps speed things up.
2. Arrival & Setup:
We’ll arrive on time, unload tools, set up protective sheeting, and confirm the day’s plan with you.
3. Base Work:
If needed, we’ll prep with bonding or backing coats. If it’s a skim job, we’ll work directly onto plasterboard or existing walls.
4. Plastering Begins:
We’ll apply two coats of fresh multi-finish plaster. Timing is crucial, and you may see us working quickly during this stage.
5. Drying Time:
After application, walls will look dark and patchy — this is normal. Drying takes 3 to 5 days depending on ventilation.
6. Clean Up:
We leave your space tidy, with all waste removed. Once fully dry, walls are ready for mist coat and paint.
Understanding each stage gives you peace of mind — and a smoother plastering experience from start to finish.
