I honestly didn’t think I’d ever leave this review, but I was checking out new massage places and this one popped up, so it reminded me of my experience. I went a couple of months ago. The massage itself was okay, nothing special, but what happened afterward was unacceptable. I paid a little over $100 for the service and left a $15 tip. Instead of a simple thank you, the masseuse seemed upset and told me she “worked hard for what I’m paying for.” I understand tipping in restaurants because servers make very little hourly, but massage therapists are already compensated through the service price. Tips are supposed to be voluntary. I always tip, but being pressured and called out for the amount is completely unprofessional. That alone ruined the entire experience for me.

I’ve been to many massage therapists all over Austin, including some of the more “high end” places, but for the past year and a half, I keep returning to Oak Hill Spa. In my opinion, they’re the best in town, in both prices and quality, especially if you like firm pressure deep tissue massages. All of the therapists are friendly and very skilled, and (unlike at many other places,) they actually address the root of my pain. Today, I went because I’d been dealing with constant tension headaches and shoulder pain. Even without me saying anything, Ella knew exactly where to focus on and made sure I was comfortable with the amount of pressure she was using. Afterwards, I noticed my headache was pretty much gone, and my shoulders feel so much better.
