From start to finish, he was straightforward, honest, and easy to work with. Compared to the other quotes we received (some of which were outrageously high), Scott stood out immediately. He explained everything clearly, followed through on what he promised, and delivered exactly as agreed. We’ve worked with several contractors over the years for basement remodels, bathroom projects, and deck work. None of those experiences came close to how smooth and positive it was working with Scott. He was miles better than the rest. We’ll absolutely be using North Four Woodworking again and highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality work and a stress-free process.

Scott at North Fourth Woodworking has been a dream to work with. Scott is able to create reality out of an idea- basically magic! Scott made a custom floor bed for my toddler’s first “big girl bed.” Not only was the bed an outstanding piece of work, but it is also so special to have a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture for my child. I’m also lucky to have one of the most beautiful cutting boards made by Scott. I can’t wait to work with North Fourth Woodworking again on future projects!

Working with Scott/North Fourth Woodworking was a great experience. I reached out about the possibility of commissioning a custom desk and Scott provided a timely and thorough response. I had a specific idea in mind of what I wanted, and Scott was extremely collaborative throughout the process. I wanted a simple desk, open at the bottom, but with a cabinet on the desktop that could hide away my monitors and equipment so that my work-from-home setup was not visible in my home when I was not working. Scott knows his trade, made suggestions to give the desk design elements and craftsmanship that matched my more modern/contemporary style, and brought my ideas to life in a better, more practical and functional, and stylish way than I envisioned. The way he designed the doors and utilized different hinge types so that the cabinet doors do not take up additional space turned out perfect. His timeframe for the work seemed very quick for having to build the piece from scratch. I was not in a rush, but he was efficient without sacrificing quality, and it exceeded my expectations to have this great piece completed so quickly. Scott provided progress updates and pictures throughout the process. All of his communications were detailed, he remembered all of the elements we discussed, and he crafted a great piece of furniture. He was even able to offer delivery of the completed piece to my home (for a nominal fee) which was great for convenience and ensuring I did not damage the desk trying to transport it myself. For the level of exacting customization, building exactly what I wanted, and doing so in such a pleasant, polite, and professional manner, North Fourth Woodworking’s prices are extremely reasonable. You will not get this level of quality, craftsmanship, or service from retailers. I was happy to support a local St. Charles craftsman, and I am proud to have an N4 branded piece of furniture that will outlast my lifetime. (The pictures do not do justice for the woodgrain you can see even with the dark stain, or for the functionality the desk provides that was exactly what I wanted.)
