3 Signs Your Headache Is Coming From Your Neck (Not Stress Alone)
Not all headaches are caused by stress. Many start in the neck and are driven by joint restriction, muscle tension, and poor spinal mechanics.
Here are three common signs your headache may be coming from your neck:
1️⃣ It starts at the base of your skull
If your headache begins where your neck meets your head and then travels up toward your temples, forehead, or behind one eye, your cervical spine may be involved.
2️⃣ Moving your head makes it worse
If turning, tilting, or looking down increases your headache, that’s a strong sign the cause is mechanical. Stress alone usually doesn’t change with movement—neck issues do.
3️⃣ You also have neck stiffness or shoulder tension
Limited neck motion, tight shoulders, or a “heavy head” feeling often point to spinal and muscle involvement that keeps headaches coming back.
If your headaches are recurring, it may be time to look at your neck, not just your stress level.
