Men’s Mental Health Month: Breaking the Silence and Prioritizing Wellbeing
June is Men’s Mental Health Month, a time to encourage open conversations about the emotional and mental wellbeing of men. Across many cultures, men are often taught to be strong, self-reliant, and emotionally controlled. While resilience is valuable, these expectations can discourage men from speaking up, seeking help, or addressing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and relationship challenges.
Mental health matters at every level of life. When concerns go untreated, they can affect relationships, work performance, physical health, and overall quality of life. Many men may also express distress through irritability, anger, withdrawal, risky behaviour, substance use, or overworking, coping strategies that may offer short-term relief while underlying issues remain.
This Men’s Mental Health Month, the call is clear: strength is not the absence of emotion. Asking for help, communicating honestly, and seeking healthy support are signs of courage.
If you are a father, son, husband, brother, friend, or colleague, remember: your mental health matters and you do not have to carry burdens alone.
