Dr. Sunaina Bansal, Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Motherhood Hospital, Mohali, shares important insights on the HPV vaccine, a powerful tool in the fight against cancer.
HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection worldwide. Some strains of HPV are cancer-causing and can lead to serious health issues. In women, HPV can cause cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and anal cancers. In men, it may lead to throat, anal, and penile cancers.
The HPV vaccine is a safe, effective way to prevent cancer-causing infections. It’s best given between ages 9–11, with 2 doses for kids under 15 and 3 doses for those 15 and older. It can be safely administered up to age 26 and is recommended for both boys and girls.
