Today we completed a transmission repair involving replacement of the molded lead frame on a Ford automatic transmission. This component is part of the internal electrical system of the transmission and contains the speed sensors and circuitry that communicate with the vehicle’s control module.
When a molded lead frame begins to fail, vehicles may experience symptoms such as:
• Harsh or delayed shifting
• Transmission warning messages
• Incorrect gear engagement
• Diagnostic trouble codes related to transmission speed sensors
• Transmission operating in a limited-function mode
After performing a full diagnostic inspection, the issue was traced to the molded lead frame inside the transmission valve body assembly.
The repair included:
• Removing the transmission pan
• Removing and inspecting the valve body
• Replacing the molded lead frame with the updated component
• Reinstalling and verifying transmission operation
• Checking system data with a professional scan tool
After the repair was completed, the vehicle was road tested and verified to be shifting normally.
