My Method Wasn't Born in a Boardroom. It Was Born in a Crisis.
The Mentally STRONG Method wasn't an academic exercise. It was a lifeline.
It was born during the 45 days between the anniversaries of my son Reggie's death and my daughter Miah's death. I was in a place of such profound darkness that I was suicidal.
The pain was too much to describe.
As a psychiatric NP, my clinical mind knew that what I was feeling wasn't just one thing. It was a tangled, chaotic mess. So I started organizing.
I realized my pain had categories:
👉Grief: The pure, crushing pain of missing my children.
👉Trauma: The flashbacks of the day Johnny drowned, of finding Miah, of the 911 calls.
👉Negative Self-Talk: The voice telling me I was a failure as a mother, that I "missed the signs."
👉Spiritual Conflict: The anger at a God I believed in, who I felt had abandoned me.
By separating these, I could finally think. I could organize. And eventually, I could choose how to respond to each piece. This became the Mentally STRONG Method. It’s the CBT-based tool that saved my life.
I filmed a documentary that shows this entire journey from the moment of desperation to the creation of the method.
