26-year-old male patient - Rotator cuff Tendinopathy
• Has been increasing weights in the gym.
• Started training CrossFit the past 2 months.
• Doesn’t have many rest days in the week.
• Manual job involving lifting frequently.
Patient Complaint:
• Pain in the front of the right shoulder when lifting.
• Dull ache when pressing weights in the gym.
• Gets a sharp pain when reaching to put jacket on
• Rest hasn’t helped, pain when lifting weights after rest.
• Has just avoided pressing movements for last few weeks.
Treatment + Advice:
• Full shoulder assessment carried out
• Pain on palpation front outside aspect of right shoulder
• Therapeutic ultrasound applied to shoulder.
• Trigger point acupuncture into tendon - soft tissue work through bicep groove
• Band rehab exercises given to do before lifting weights. Advice on eccentric movements given.
Outcome + Prognosis:
• Still able to use the gym just de-load movements initially.
• Rehab exercises to help fix posture.
• Specific stretches to complete before heavy repetitive lifts.
• Able to keep strength and CrossFit exercise in as normal.
