Mathey Tree Care is the best. I am an avid gardener and care a lot about the details of how my trees are cared for and I completely trust Rich and his team. They know a lot about trees. Rich is the best kind of professional: he won’t tell you to do things that aren’t necessary and will tell you if something you’re asking about isn’t the best plan. In addition to the work they have done in my own garden, Rich and his crew came out last weekend and took out a massive tree and a few invasive shrubs at Edna Brewer Middle School, where I manage the volunteer garden. This was part of a larger pro bono project they are doing with the school. It’s hard to even put i to words how grateful i am for this. It is so generous. We never would have been able to do this ourselves or pay for it with our meager garden budget. But I’m not surprised. Rich is a stand up guy and I can’t recommend him enough.

Rich and his team are a prime example of what professionalism looks like. Below is a before and after photo of the chestnut tree that they cut back in a quick 3 hours. This tree was 2 to 3 years overdue for a trim. Rich took the time to educate us about the reason he was taking certain branches down and not others. His team was on time and efficient. The cost was extremely reasonable compared to other companies with spoke with. We will definitely be hiring this team in the future.

Rich and his team did an awesome job thinning out our beautiful and huge cedar tree in our front yard to keep it safe and also thriving! Super appreciated his care and obvious deep knowledge and love of trees, as well as being really reasonably priced. Also weighed in quickly and expertly on some other big trees in our yard, and gave super reasonably priced proposals on all the work based on how the cedar turned out, which I also appreciated. Scheduling was fast and easy, and the trimming work itself was done quickly and very cleanly, and respectfully of my neighbors. Would 100% recommend. Understood our concerns for safety and our house as well as taking care of the tree!

After a significant high wind storm in late December, our largest Redwood tree shed some larger limbs causing all a lot of concern. We immediately contacted several arborists and asked them to assess the health, structure and safety prevention steps to take for caring for our beautiful Redwoods. Rich provided unique insights, careful inspection and unlike other services, he explained in detail how he would trim and reduce the bulk end weight for the large tree. We hired him to inspect all the trees removing bulk, damaged limbs and potential offshoots from the previous owner's decision to top several of them. We also asked he maintain the fire safety perimeter around our house. The day of the trimming, Rich was in frequent contact. He brought a team, carefully instructed them about the job and checked in with us regularly on the progress. The lift they needed to use was impressive, along with climbers that went into the other trees. They managed the entire trim and cleanup before mid-afternoon. We felt huge relief the job was done with such care, and with an eye to the tree's overall aesthetic since it's on the end in our little grove. We've had more strong winds since then, and the trees are all doing fine. Thank you so much. Highly Recommend! Rich Mathey and his team did a beautiful job on my two 40 year old Gingko trees. From the first contact with Rich, everything went smoothly. He stayed in constant contact with me to make sure I was getting exactly what I wanted. His staff are very efficient and cleaned up any trimming or leaves when done. I couldn't be happier, and his price was exceptional as well. I highly recommend him and his team!

I highly recommend Mathey Tree Care. Rich and his team were able to make our giant overgrown Holly tree an amazing “ haircut” if you will. I initially disliked that particular tree but as soon as they finished, I could see its beauty and value in our backyard. It completely transformed the light in our yard. They also trimmed a few other trees in our yard. They all look fantastic. So happy to have found this excellent company.

We had a large liquid amber tree removed including having the stump and some large invasive roots removed. Rich and his team did a fantastic job. They were the ultimate professionals working quickly and safely to take down the over 60 foot tall tree. We highly recommend Mathey Tree care.

We recently hired Mathey Tree Care to window some trees located in a neighbor’s yard. It was a unique situation, since the uphill neighbors wanted the trees opened up for views, while the downhill neighbors owned the trees themselves. Rich Mathey and his team handled the coordination beautifully. They scheduled the work quickly, communicated clearly with me as project director, and carried out the job with skill and care. Both sets of homeowners were very happy with the results. The trees are now healthier, and the homeowners now have stunning bay views to enjoy.

Fantastic experience with Rich (owner) and team at Mathey Tree Care. They removed a pretty large tree and did some trimming on a few others. Rich was great to work with and really knows his stuff. His crew showed up exactly on time and were efficient and professional. They also did a great job with cleanup. The pricing was reasonable. We recently moved to Piedmont and needed a substantial amount of tree work in our backyard.
