Sub-Zero Refrigerator Refrigerant Recharge
Service Call in San Diego, CA
Customer contacted us because their Sub-Zero refrigerator was no longer cooling properly. During diagnostics, we found the sealed system was low on refrigerant, which usually indicates a refrigerant leak somewhere in the system.
At this time, the customer approved only a refrigerant recharge and decided not to proceed with a full leak search and sealed system repair yet. Because of that, we added refrigerant, balanced system pressures, and tested refrigerator operation to restore cooling performance temporarily.
In many situations like this, a refrigerant recharge is the first step. Sometimes the leak is extremely small and the unit can continue operating normally for a long time after recharge. Other times the leak may become worse over time and additional sealed system repair will eventually be needed.
A complete leak search on built-in Sub-Zero refrigerators can require extensive sealed system diagnostics, nitrogen pressure testing, UV dye inspection, or accessing hidden evaporator and tubing sections. Because of the labor involved, many customers first choose to recharge the system and monitor performance before committing to a larger repair.
After service, the refrigerator started cooling again and operating pressures returned closer to normal range. We advised the customer to monitor temperatures over the next several weeks. If cooling performance drops again, the next recommended step will be
