A recent service call involved a Miele dishwasher displaying an “Intake/Drain” error. The customer reported that the unit would start a cycle but fail to drain properly, causing the dishwasher to stop and trigger the fault code.
During diagnosis, we found that the dishwasher itself was operating correctly. The actual issue was a clogged air gap and a partially blocked garbage disposal drain connection, restricting water flow out of the machine.
Miele dishwashers use advanced drain monitoring systems that track drain performance by measuring pump operation and drain timing. When water does not leave the tub within the expected time, the control detects excessive drain resistance and generates the Intake/Drain error.
After clearing the blockage in the air gap and restoring proper drainage through the disposal connection, the dishwasher resumed normal operation and all functions tested properly.
