I called to make sure the car was available for a test drive because I was coming 2.5 hours away. I let the sales rep know I'd be there by 3pm
I arrived at 2:15 to be met by a different sales rep who says "I have a test drive coming in at 2:30"
Strike 1
I test drive the car with my sales rep and she informed us that the car was just traded in and the check engine light was on but service fixed it. My daughter then test drove it because it was for her. We get back and agree we'll start the process to purchase the car.
We barely get in the door and the sales rep who had a 2:30 literally took the keys from our sales rep. Strike 2
I said they won't be test driving it because we are going to purchase it, I was then blocked by the sales guy so I couldn't see mine. Strike 3.
My sales rep moved and I followed her into the lending guy office? I don't know this guy's roll but he said "until you are qualified to buy the car it can be test driven" Strike 4
I said I am qualified through my own credit union, lender guy then says I need proof and will need to talk to your bank! Strike 5
I've bought so many cars and I've NEVER had to have my banker talk with someone at the car dealership. When I told this to office guy he said "So I'm suppose to just trust you? that's how cars get stolen" Strike 6
My bank talks with office guy and we move forward with the sale. My daughter drove it home and while on the way home the check engine light comes on. It's close to 8pm so dealership is closed.
I emailed and texted our sales rep, she called me the next day. We set up a day and time to take it back to get it fixed again.
We drive the 2.5 hours get it fixed and get about 3 blocks away and the check engine light is ON AGAIN. We take it right back and they said they'll need to order a part to fix it, fine, they give us a loaner so we can drive 2.5 hours home. Few days later get the call it's done. I said please drive it around and make sure it doesn't come back on.
2.5 hours back to pick up the car and give them the loaner back. 2.5 hours back and it gets parked for a day. Our sales rep texted the next day to verify no check engine light came on for the ride back. It hadn't BUT 2 days later it did and has been on ever since. There was no coolant in it, so it was overheating on our daughter. We added coolant and fingers crossed that doesn't have a leak.
For a 2017 with low mileage the deal was definitely to good to be true. My daughter's first car buying experience was a disaster, huge Strike in my book.
Bottom line I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND Lockwood Motors in Marshall MN
I'm changing the 1* to 4 stars 🌟 because Mr.Lockwood made it right in the end. The car was probably diagnosed finally and it was fixed by Lockwood Motors. I appreciate that 💯 especially this being our daughters 1st car purchase. The road wasn't smooth but we are all humans so I'm giving grace to some of the mistakes.
I would like to make a suggestion for the sales people, because a Thank you goes a long way. We purchased a vehicle 4-5 years ago for another daughter. Every year we get a Christmas Card with a gift card in it still thanking us for our business. The same sales rep sends a birthday card every year to my daughter, again thanking her for the business.
I received a phone call from a sales rep that I bought my truck from 2 years ago, asking how I was, still enjoying it, and thanking me for the purchase. We did receive a Thank you card shortly after purchase.
Our oldest daughter drove 4 hours last week to get a new to her car, she had her last one for 10 years. 2 days after the new purchase she received a box of goodies and a thank you card.
Mr.Lockwood Thank You again for all you've done, that speaks volumes and I hope your team can see how you got it turned around for the customer.
