What To Do If Your Ignition Lock Is Stuck?
If your ignition lock is jammed and the key won’t turn, don’t force it — this can break the key or damage the ignition cylinder. Here’s what you can try:
1) Check your steering wheel – If it’s locked, gently turn it left and right while turning the key.
2) Inspect the key – Bent or worn keys often get stuck. Try a spare key if you have one.
3) Ensure the car is in PARK – Automatic cars won’t let the key turn if not fully in “P”.
4) Clean the ignition – Dirt and debris inside the cylinder can block the key.
5) Avoid using oils – WD-40 and similar products can damage electronic ignitions.
If nothing helps — the ignition cylinder may be worn, damaged, or the wafers inside may be stuck.
And we can fix it without towing your car.
