TANZANIA SINGLE USE PLASTIC BAG BAN
The Government of Tanzania has implemented a much welcomed "Single Use Plastic Bag Ban" implemented by the Tanzanian Government effective June 1st, 2019.
How does it affect visitors to Tanzania?
Below an excerpt of the carefully worded publice notice:
Plastics carrier items known as “ziploc bags” that are specifically used to carry toiletries will be permitted as they are expected to remain in the permanent possession of visitors and are not expected to be disposed in the country.
The Government does not intend for visitors to Tanzania to find their stay unpleasant as we enforce the ban. However, the Government expects that, in appreciation of the imperative to protect the environment and keep our country clean and beautiful, our visitors will accept minor inconveniences resulting from the plastics bags ban.
Special desks have been introduced at all airports where travelers will be asked to surrender any plastic bags they may have in their luggage. It is advised that everyone plan in advance and not take any plastic bags other than ziploc bags into Tanzania.
