The Deadliest “Five Seconds” on the Road
We all know texting and driving is bad. But let's put it in perspective.
According to NHTSA, taking your eyes off the road for just 5 seconds, at 55 miles per hour, is like driving the entire length of a football field with your eyes closed.
Now, think about your child in the back seat. Would you ever do that? This is why our team is so passionate about this issue.
And it's not just texting. The National Safety Council says it's any distraction.
● Talking on a hands-free device.
● Changing the music.
● Eating a burger.
● Looking at a GPS.
Your brain is still distracted. You are slower to react. This "cognitive distraction" is a huge cause of crashes.
As lawyers and parents, we beg you: Please, just drive. Put the phone in the glove box. Set your GPS before you leave. The text can wait. Your family's life, and the lives of other families, depend on it.
