“Buzzed” Driving is Drunk Driving
New Year's Eve is a time to celebrate. It is also, sadly, one of the most dangerous times to be on the road.
Many people think they are "okay to drive" after just a few drinks. They are wrong. Here's a fact from NHTSA: In 2021, over 13,000 people died in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes. That is one person every 39 minutes.
This is 100% preventable. A crash with a drunk driver is not an "accident." It is a crime.
If you are hit and you think the other driver is drunk:
1. Call 911. This is most important.
2. Tell the 911 operator that you believe the other driver is drunk. Tell them why (you smell alcohol, they are slurring their words, you saw them throw bottles out of the car).
3. Do not confront the driver. They may be unpredictable.
4. Tell the police officer the same thing.
Our team holds drunk drivers accountable. We also investigate if a bar or restaurant knew the driver was drunk and kept serving them anyway. There is no excuse for this. We fight to get justice for families hurt by this choice.
