Stopped by Police? You Have the Right to Remain Silent
Imagine you are driving home and see the flashing lights. Your heart starts pounding. The officer walks up and starts asking questions. "Where are you coming from? Did you have a drink tonight?"
What should you do?
Most people think they have to answer everything to be "polite." That is a trap. You must provide your license and registration, but you do not have to answer questions about where you have been or what you have done.
Anything you say can be used against you. If you admit to "just two beers," that is evidence.
The best thing to do? Be polite, hand over your documents, and say, "I would like to remain silent." Then call us. We protect you when you can't protect yourself.
