Driving While Sleepy is Just as Bad as Driving Drunk
Imagine driving a 40-ton truck after being awake for 18 hours. Your eyes are heavy. Your reaction time is slow.
This is a reality on our highways. Truck drivers are under huge pressure to deliver goods on time. Sometimes, they skip sleep to make a deadline.
The government has "Hours of Service" rules that limit how long a trucker can drive. But some break these rules. The National Safety Council says that fatigue is a major factor in large truck crashes.
When we take a truck accident case, the first thing we look for is the driver's schedule. Did they take their required breaks? Were they driving longer than allowed? If they were too tired to drive safely, the trucking company is liable for the damage they caused.
