Are Stores Responsible for Crowds During the Holidays?
The holiday shopping season is here. Parking lots are full. Stores are crowded. And floors are a mess.
This is a high-risk time for slip and fall accidents. Store owners know this. They know the aisles will be cluttered with boxes. They know the food courts will have spills. They know the entrances will be wet with snow and slush.
Because they know this, they have a higher duty to keep up. A "mad dash" for gifts is no excuse for a store to be unsafe.
The National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) reports that "falls on the same level" (not stairs) are a major cause of injuries. Think about that as you walk through a crowded store. Are there boxes in the aisle? Is that a "Wet Floor" sign, or just a dark puddle?
Be careful, and be aware.
1. Wear good shoes with traction.
2. Watch where you are walking.
3. If you see a spill, report it.
And if a store's mess causes you or a loved one to get hurt, know that you have rights. From our team, please be safe during this busy week.
