Felony or Misdemeanor: What is the Difference?
You hear these words on TV all the time, but do you know what they really mean for you?
A Misdemeanor is a less serious crime (like petty theft or a first DUI). You might face fines or up to a year in jail, but often you get probation.
A Felony is serious. This includes crimes like robbery or drug trafficking. Felonies carry prison time of more than a year. But the worst part? A felony takes away your rights. You can lose your right to vote and your right to own a gun. It makes getting a job incredibly hard.
Our goal in many cases is to get a Felony charge reduced to a Misdemeanor. That difference saves your freedom and your civil rights.
