Good morning,
We have had a lot of questions regarding wild animals such as birds due to it being nesting season which are great questions.
I just want to make people aware that it is not illegal for any types of hedge or tree works at any time of the year except TPO, conservation and works involving a licence. I appreciate the law protects all birds, eggs and their nests, so here at Ash Tree Arb we do a bird nesting survey before any works commence, this is continuously checked and amended throughout the day and any nest is given a 5 meter exclusion zone.
On large projects we employ an ecologist to do this for us as they are qualified to identify a redundant nest and other protected species.
We take wildlife and the law seriously and as a company we prefer to retain hedges, trees and shrubs, which we encourage our customers to do and always advise replanting when removal takes place.
As I’m sure you’re aware grey squirrels are a non-native invasive species and don’t fall under any protection so keeping, rescuing and relocating is illegal.
If you have any questions please feel free to message us.
