We get a lot of calls from homeowners who think rodents just “showed up” inside — but most of the time, we find the activity actually started outside.
Here in Florida, rats and mice usually work their way in slowly. We’ll see signs around garages, sheds, rooflines, or along the yard before they ever make it into the living space.
A few things we often recommend:
1.Keep landscaping trimmed and clear away stacked items or clutter near the home. Shelter close to the structure makes it easy for rodents to stick around.
2.Organize garages and sheds. When items are stored off the floor, nesting spots become harder to find.
3.Remove easy food and water sources — pet food, bird seed, leaky spigots — small things that keep them coming back.
Rodent prevention works best when the outside and inside are addressed together.
