Overall, we were really impressed by Kalahari Breeze Safaris.
We booked early so were able to fully tailor the trip, and found Maria really helpful in putting together an itinerary which we loved, providing lots of info and advice based on what we said we wanted to see.
We joined together a 3-night camping trip in the Okavango Delta with a further 4 nights camping in Moremi and Savute, ending the trip in Chobe and Victoria Fall. We loved the wild camping and found it a highlight to sleep in remote locations amongst the wildlife. Although Maria stressed it was not a luxury safari, it was certainly not a budget experience, with nice large tents, comfy camp beds, ‘en suite’ toilets and good, filling food 3 times a day cooked on the campsite fire, or in an adapted oven buried in the ground. The food was really good – and they had no issues with providing gluten-free alternatives for my wife throughout the trip.
We had two guides during the trip – Master in Okavango and Clifford in Moremi/Savute. We found both to be excellent and really friendly – we loved listening to their stories around the campfire at the end of the day. Both guides were local to the area we visited with them and their knowledge of the area and the behaviour of the animals really added to the trip. We couldn’t complain about the animal sightings, including a couple of close encounters with Leopards, a pride of Lions fighting over a recent buffalo kill, and a rare sighting of a Brown Hyena.
We found the lodges in between the camping trips to be of good quality and very comfortable. The final part of the trip in Zimbabwe was handed over to a local tour company and they provided equally good service. In particular, we found our guide who took us around Victoria Falls park to be really friendly, and knowledgeable which helped make that part of the trip really memorable. The lodge in Zimbabwe was the best of the trip.
We booked from the UK but picked a local safari firm as we believe it is better to contribute to the local economy, rather than go through a third party. We are really glad we did as they were helpful throughout – answering my many questions before we left, providing a lot of guidance throughout the booking process and when we arrived in Botswana.
Botswana itself is a lovely country with very friendly people, loads of wildlife and stunning scenery. We will definitely we going back, and will not hesitate in using Kalahari Breeze again.
