When we bought our new home in the Central Foothills of Boise, the concrete in the garage, RV bay, courtyard, and back-porch areas were the standard bare concrete with the usual light cracks and imperfections from daily use and exposure to the elements.
There was nothing “wrong,” per se, but we wanted a step up for a home of this caliber.
We’ve always loved the look and practicality of epoxy floors, so we decided to invest in finishing these spaces right away. That’s where Kage Epoxy and its owner, Colton Harada, came in.
From the very beginning, the experience was professional, and felt personal. We discussed the project over the phone and negotiated a competitive price.
Colton met with us about a week before the project started to walk the areas, set expectations, help us choose colors, and answer every question we had.
He’s a small Boise local business owner, and we felt confident in him and his abilities and absolutely loved that we could support another local Boise small business.
He coated roughly 3,500 square feet across the two car garage, RV bay, covered courtyard, and multiple back porch sections. His process was thorough: cleaning, grinding, repairing cracks, applying a base coat, hand-broadcasting flakes, scraping, and finishing with a protective top coat.
It was the detail work that stood out — flakes carried up onto the baseboards, under drywall edges, and wrapped cleanly around outdoor curbs for a professional, finished look.
You could see the care in the way he and his team worked. They were literally on their hands and knees making sure there was perfect coverage on all the side walls, corners, and the curbs on the outside edges of the courtyard and back porch slabs.
Communication was excellent throughout via email, phone calls and text messages. Colton and team showed up early, stayed late (one night past 9pm), and kept us updated every day on what was happening, what would happen next, and when each space was safe to walk or drive on.
He was flexible, patient, and responsive — and never made us feel like our questions were an inconvenience.
The entire project took about four days, including something that really showed his character: after everything cured, he realized he wasn’t completely satisfied with how light reflected on a few areas of the outdoor spaces.
We wouldn’t have noticed it, but he did — and he came back on his own time to re-do the entire patio and courtyard so it met his standards.
As homeowners who don’t know the nuances of epoxy, his high standards, commitment to excellence, and integrity goes a long way and speaks volumes about his character and trustworthiness.
The finished results are outstanding. The garage and RV bay, done in a blue/grey mix, is polished and modern. The courtyard and porch areas, done in “snowfall” blend, feel bright, fresh, and whimsical thanks to the subtle use of rainbow sparkles he added as a surprise.
It’s an upgrade that makes everyday life easier and genuinely adds delight, enjoyment and value to our new home.
Colton works clean, keeps his equipment organized, and leaves the space better than he found it. More importantly he and his team are clearly committed to doing things the right way. Supporting small local businesses matters to us, and this is exactly why: relationships, pride of work, and outstanding outcomes that met and exceeded our expectations.
We’re going to hire him again in the near future after we finish a concrete pour for an expansion to the back porch entertainment area.
If you’re thinking about getting epoxy floors — inside, outside, garage, patio, or anything in between — Colton and Kage Epoxy is our whole hearted recommendation.
After this incredible experience, we won’t go anywhere else for our epoxy flooring needs and neither should you.
Please give Colton and team a call and let them know that Shawn and Jill sent you!
